“Interstate”
Melissa Davis
The road to hell is noisy
There is yelling,
There is gossip,
Mundane conversation overflows.
The road to hell is thick
With your desires,
With your wishes,
With your disappointments.
The road to hell is crowded
There are Obsessive mothers,
Nagging aunts,
Abusive uncles.
The road to hell is hot
Suffocated by your “love”
Freezing without warmth
Dried of touch.
The road to hell is endless
Always in the way
Always inadequate
Always compared to a heaven you think is there.
